Join us for a 90-minute lunchtime webinar exploring how individuals enter, move through, and disengage from violent extremism — and what these trajectories can teach us about prevention, intervention, disengagement, and reintegration practices.

The event will present findings from two systematic reviews on pathways into and out of violent extremism, followed by a panel discussion with practitioners and researchers working at the intersection of evidence, intervention, and field practice.

This ASI workshop and conference will bring together an international and interdisciplinary group of scholars and researchers from psychiatry, psychology, the social sciences, and philosophy — including our director, Ghayda Hassan — to address these vital questions.

As part of the Unveiling Equity series, in partnership with CSLP, CPN-PREV, and the Indigenous Healing Knowledges Concordia Research Chair, this event invites a critical reflection on loss, memory, and resistance amid the ongoing demolition of villages in South Lebanon. Beyond physical destruction, the conversation centers the erasure of lived histories, homes that held childhoods, photographs, books and everyday life.

This conversation approaches the stage as a decolonial space where refusal operates as both method and stance. Centering positionality, the session reflects on how embodied, artistic, and narrative practices are shaped by lived histories of colonialism, systemic violence, displacement, and resistance.

In partnership with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW), this introductory online session offers a critical overview of the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) landscape in Canada, inviting participants to examine how history, power, and social context shape the field.

This Unveiling Equity conversation, co-hosted by CSLP, CPN-PREV and the Indigenous Healing Knowledges Chair, brings together Dr. Samah Jabr and Dr. Ghayda Hassan to explore equity, dignity, and ethical mental health practice in contexts shaped by colonial violence. Dr. Jabr’s work in Palestine demonstrates how occupation, torture, and collective trauma shape suffering, and how personal narrative serves as a tool for witnessing and resistance.

This session invites us to reflect on the power and politics of recounting personal histories — where healing meets the risk of exposure, and how we reclaim agency in telling our truths.

“In this online event, we’ll explore the urgent issue of harmful online ideologies targeting male youth and provide concrete strategies and tools for prevention. The event will include a keynote by experts in gender, masculinity, and radicalization who will share critical insights into how misogynistic online movements are influencing young men and boys, and what can be done to counter them.”

This webinar, informed by the systematic review Exposure to hate in online and traditional media: A systematic review and meta-analysis of the impact of this exposure on individuals and communities published in Campbell Systematic Reviews, will explore the far-reaching consequences of online hate on individuals and society as a whole.

The CPN-PREV, Canada Centre for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence and UNESCO Chair in Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism invite you to the live presentation and discussion of CPN-PREV’s 2nd systematic review results. This discussion panel will explore the outcomes of primary and secondary PVE programs. At CPN-PREV, we analyzed the empirical literature on PVE programs in order to identify the overall effectiveness of preventative interventions and the components that were most often associated with success or failure in meeting program goals. The successes and iatrogenic effects of program components are discussed in order to promote a “do-no-harm” approach grounded in non-stigmatizing and non-oppressive practices.
