Notre directrice adjointe, Zeina Ismail-Allouche, a récemment publié une nouvelle tribune libre dans laquelle elle examine comment, à la suite du meurtre récent d’une jeune Irakienne par deux garçons, la violence dont sont victimes les enfants, ou celle qu’ils commettent, ne peut être comprise indépendamment des contextes sociaux et culturels dans lesquels ils grandissent.

Notre directrice Ghayda Hassan a récemment pris part à un épisode du balado Cercle Démos de l'Université de Montréal portant sur la signification de la polarisation, ses manifestations dans différents contextes – notamment en éducation et dans l’espace public – ainsi que ses effets sur la démocratie et la justice sociale.

En mars dernier, la communauté de pratique du RPC-PREV — vPiP — a organisé deux sessions de renforcement des capacités sur la prévention de l’extrémisme violent (PEV) dans le Canada atlantique, à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard (9 et 10 mars) et à Halifax, en Nouvelle-Écosse (12 et 13 mars). Plus de 80 professionnel·les de première ligne issu·es des domaines de la santé mentale, du travail social, des services à la jeunesse, de l’éducation, de l’application de la loi, des politiques publiques et du développement communautaire se sont réuni·es.

Du 23 au 25 février, le Réseau des praticien·ne·s canadien·ne·s pour la prévention de l'extrémisme violent (RPC-PREV) a eu le plaisir d'organiser un atelier de co-conception de trois jours, accueilli au Centre d'étude sur l'apprentissage et la performance (CSLP) de l'Université Concordia. L'atelier a été conçu par Zeina Ismail Allouche et co-animé avec Ghayda Hassan.

Le 4 novembre 2025, douze jeunes remarquables ont partagé leurs idées sur ce qui ferait de Halifax un endroit plus sûr lors de la cérémonie d'ouverture de la conférence annuelle du CCCS. Leur message était clair : la ville doit écouter leurs voix et agir en fonction de leurs recommandations afin d'améliorer de façon significative la façon dont les jeunes naviguent et vivent à Halifax. Our team dove deep into critical conversations about PVE alongside incredible partners from across Canada and other countries. The energy was palpable from day one when our director, Ghayda Hassan, hosted “Voices from the Frontlines,” hearing directly from educators, social workers, and community leaders navigating today’s complex social climate. At our booth, Sebastian Brouillette-Alarie and Wilson Hernandez were on hand throughout the day to answer questions and engage with the many visitors who stopped by to learn about our work and publications.

Colleagues in the CPN-PREV team recently had the privilege of attending the 2nd Annual CANSES Workshop in Halifax, bringing together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working in the PVE space. Over two enriching days, Ghayda Hassan (Director and Founder), Zeina Ismail Allouche (Director of Partnerships and Program Development), and Wilson Hernandez Varona (Capacity Development Coordinator), engaged in meaningful exchanges on current trends in the PVE field.

Dr. Ghayda Hassan was recently awarded the Eradicate Hate Bridge Builder Award at the 2025 Eradicate Hate Global Summit (September 17). You can now watch her full acceptance speech (en anglais seulement), reflecting on the collective decades of work dedicated to preventing violent extremism, building stronger and safer communities, and emphasizing the urgent need to continue this vital effort.

We are proud to share that CPN-PREV director and founder, Dr. Ghayda Hassan, has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of her outstanding leadership and global contributions to the prevention of violent extremism.

Facilitated by Ghayda Hassan and Zeina Ismail Allouche, the workshop was an initiative of the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) Department of Community Safety, the Canadian Practitioners Network for the Prevention of Extremist Violence (CPN-PREV), and Public Safety Canada’s Centre for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence (CCEPV).

Nous sommes fier-ères d'annoncer que notre directrice et fondatrice, Ghayda Hassan, s'associe avec l'Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) afin d'offrir une première au Canada : un nouveau microprogramme de deuxième cycle en prévention des polarisations sociales et des extrémismes violents.

This past Monday, the training and research teams at RPC-PREV rolled up their sleeves to lay the groundwork for a future training program on risk assessment for practitioners in the prevention of violent extremism!

Last week, amidst Montreal's rainy and snowy weather, practitioners—members of the Transatlantic Network Against Extremism (TransNex)—from various countries, including the United States, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, gathered for a three-day symposium at the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP). The event focused on sharing best practices, identifying key needs, and exploring pathways to prevent social polarization and violent extremism in schools and societies.

Last month, the AVERT Research Network hosted its 2024 symposium, uniting leading practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to address critical challenges in countering violent extremism. On Day 2 of the symposium, our director, Dr. Ghayda Hassan, delivered a compelling address titled “I Know It Works, But Not Sure Why: Practitioners’ Successes and Challenges in PVE.”

On Wednesday, November 13, members of our team participated in the Mental Health Fair at Dawson College, an event that brought together various organizations working in mental health. Sabrina Paillé, Sabrina Charikhi, and Imane Ammour represented CPN-PREV, promoting our services and reports through an interactive kiosk.
